About the opt-out letter
Is a data broker opt-out letter legally binding?
The letter itself is a request, but the right behind it can be binding: in states with a privacy law (like California, Virginia or Texas), brokers are legally required to honor deletion and opt-out requests. Even where there’s no state law, every major broker offers a free opt-out you can demand.
Do I have to send a letter to opt out of a data broker?
Not always — many brokers have a web form that’s faster. A letter or email is useful when a broker only accepts written requests, when you want a paper trail, or when you’re asking for full deletion rather than just suppression.
What’s the difference between an opt-out and a deletion request?
An opt-out (or suppression) hides your listing; a deletion request asks the broker to erase the underlying data. This generator asks for both, plus a stop on selling or sharing your information.
Does this cost anything?
